The Parisian Vie en Rouge

In the heart of Paris, a small studio stands as an architectural poem, where every detail dances to the rhythm of passionate and decisive shades of red.

At the entrance, a spacious square-shaped area welcomes with light colors and wooden profiles, serving as a large wardrobe supporting both function and a library. The entrance doors, in harmony with the style of the cabinets, promise a complete immersion into the environment.

Once beyond the threshold into the living area, an unexpected panorama unfolds before the observer. Soft shapes and vibrant colors paint the picture, with an essential kitchen reflecting in a glossy, gray-shaped door, providing access to a clean and geometric bathroom. Wall-mounted cabinets, invisible behind a mirror, reveal the ingenious utilization of space.

The curves of the kitchen and bathroom door gracefully align with a rounded black iron table, embracing the pillar on two sides while remaining airy and light. The living area, with red cabinets and pink interiors, harmoniously merges with textured gray walls on a floor with rosy tones, interrupted by a full-height curtain in dusty blue.

This curtain, like a stage curtain, divides a hybrid environment that combines the living and sleeping areas, characterized by a long niche sofa, a comfortable and tranquil refuge. Pull-out low drawers and upper cabinets with folding doors, a subtle nod to concealed organization, create visual harmony. The contrast of an indigo blue sofa, transformable into a bed, complements the satin steel element, resembling a shield amid a carpet of roses, providing a distinctive textural contrast to the room. Closing the curtain transforms the sleeping area into an intimate and obscured space, offering an atmosphere of total privacy.

Experience La Vie en Rouge – the life in red – of this Parisian studio, where design melds with emotion, creating a visually and sensorially unique experience, a space infused with passion and creativity.

The warm embrace of wood and metal

In a villa surrounded by greenery, the interior furnishings are characterized by the elegant combination of dark wood and metal inserts.

At the entrance, a hanging rack in the niche anticipates and denotes the style of the living area, characterized by full-height thermo-treated oak furniture with linear brass inserts that enrich and enhance the nature of the wood.
The living area opens up in front of a glass wall that illuminates upholstered furniture in light tones and an equipped wall that alternates with a backlit bookcase. The parts with doors recall the style of the entrance’s furniture while the bookcase is interesting in which very thin bronze painted shelves are inserted which, with uneven lengths, create dynamism between the vertical and oblique volumes.

We also find wood on the floor with a warm-toned parquet that alternates with the veined white of the Carrara marble that characterizes the bathrooms and the basement staircase. The bathroom serving the living area takes up the material fil rouge of the adjacent room, while the one on the lower floor is characterized by a light-colored cabinet with recessed handles, a white solid surface top that contrasts with a dark-toned floor.

Light/dark play also in the night area where the combination of wood and metal remains but changes appearance preferring the solid colors of ivory white in the master bathroom and black in the bedroom furnishings. These lose their austerity with a play of primary colors found inside the bedside tables and in the circular recessed handles of the chest of drawers. The metal, on the other hand, becomes black iron and underlines its industrial imprint with visible welding.
The maximum expression of the material is found in the aerial staircase that goes to the mezzanine where there is a walk-in closet with folding doors covered in black iron combined with a matt lacquered chest of drawers.

An important role within the environments is played by artificial lights. The false ceilings have linear and symmetrical cuts capable of diffusing soft light throughout the living area. In the bathrooms and bedrooms, the light points have been carefully chosen, to have the best lighting without losing the charm of the atmosphere.

An industrial-style attic with wooden interior

An attic in the centre of Bergamo whose industrial setting meets the warm and welcoming taste of the wooden interior. Contemporary lines combine metallic materials with modern furnishings.

Project: Cesare Grasseni and Modulor
Year: 2015
Site: Bergamo

A renovation in the centre of Bergamo where the architectural layout organized on two levels maintains the original height of the internal wooden rooms. By accessing the entrance whose ceiling has been kept lower in respect of the original architectural configuration, the stylistic sign of the space is clearly visible. As display niches, the exposed stonewalls maintain their traditional imprint, emerging in the room. The hidden lighting in the profile of the wall enhances its depth and underlines the material nature of this insert as a real natural picture. The view therefore opens onto the large double-height living room, topped by a ceiling with exposed beams in a warm wood.

An IPA beam underlines both the structural and the visual border between the mezzanine sleeping area and the living area below with the kitchenette. The latter has contemporary lines and colours focused on neutral tones. Two visual characteristics make it recognizable: the white Corian, which from the countertop with recessed sink extends to the rear shelf, also goes down along the side profile acting as a perceptive closure shoulder of the room. And the upper wall units, which instead emphasize a horizontal setting whose dynamism is represented by the diagonal shelf that visually cuts the service support. The 50s Smeg refrigerator and coloured wooden chairs give a touch of colour with a retro taste. Placed in the adjacent corner, the bathroom is characterized by a cabinet with U-shaped polished steel legs and wooden covering. The latter is exact the same floor material, thus presenting the identical finish and essence, in material continuity. With their rough finish, the walls underline the industrial firm.

A Corten staircase with recessed backlit handrail with essential style, bring to the sleeping area. A walk-in closet in satin glass and metal profiles precedes the bedroom. A library consisting of essential lines runs along the balustrade of the mezzanine. A system of interlocking coloured Plexiglas volumes allows the dynamic and personalized use of this piece of furniture. The bedroom takes advantage of the intimacy of the exposed beams and the inclination of the ceiling with wooden cladding. It is equipped with essential furnishings such as TV cabinet in matt gray lacquered MDF, recalling the interior furniture of the walk-in closet, with contemporary profiles.
